OLLI began as the Yavapai Learning Institute in 1993 with a dozen members who were taking courses at the college and wished to keep learning but without formal classes with tests ad grades.YLI (Yavapai Learning Institute) to OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) with a $100,000 grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation.First $1,000,000 endowment from the Osher Foundation in 2004. Second $1,000,000 endowment from Osher in 2008. The grant allows us to use the interest on the endowment only. The grant is split with Sedona and the Verde Valley Lifelong Learning Institutes based on membership numbers. Memberships account for the rest of the budget.There is 5 – 6 week sessions each year. Current membership is around 600+.
